California PAL will utilize the funding for a Bay area leadership development program to create peer mentors and to expand the reach and scope of our Youth Leadership Councils at each of our participating Bay Area PALS and SALS. We will also open a scholarship cycle for youth to apply for free tuition to attend the California PAL Youth Leadership and Mentoring Academy. We would like to call it the San Jose Sharks Leadership Scholars program.

These youth would attend our annual 4-day leadership and mentoring intensive and then return to their home leadership councils to impact a much larger number of bay area youth, their families and community utilizing the peer-to-peer mentorship and leadership skills they acquired during the intensive.  We would also work with these youth for a one-year time frame to further develop their mentoring skills and to assist them in implementing leadership activities they are required to implement at their home leadership councils.
